How many of you shop at ALDI’s. Can you believe I had never even been inside an ALDI’s until I was asked to write about my shopping experience at ALDI’s for Mom Central. We have a brand new ALDI’s in our town. Thanks to the re-building after our Joplin tornado this past May.
I was like the proverbial child in a candy store. But I’m getting ahead of myself. Since I have never shopped a ALDI’s I did not have any idea about a few things a newbie shopper such as myself should know.
First I strolled into the store thinking about all the fun things I was going to purchase on my list for the review. I was admiring the shiny newness of our Joplin store when I realized I could not find a shopping cart. Well I looked around but still no cart. So I went out the exit door and lo and behold to the far right of the exit is a row of carts. I reach up to grab one and… they would not pull apart. I asked the person next to me how we were supposed to “unhook” the carts from each other. She smiled and said “You will need a quarter”. So I commence to digging in my wallet for a quarter. Worried because I had recently given my spare change to my granddaughter. Again the kind lady noticed my distress and offered my a quarter just as I announced “jackpot”. As if I had won the lottery! At this point we were both laughing. So I inserted my prize and freed my shopping cart and away we went.
The first thing on my list was wine. Since I’m shopping on a budget for items anyone could purchase to host a splendid perfectly under budget holiday party.
ALDI’s has Award Winning Wines at fabulous prices. My choices for this review were.
- Landshut Riesling (Germany)
- Villa Malizian Pinot Grigio (Italy)
- Gonfalone Chianti (Italy)
- Walker Napa Vally Red Wine (California)
Cheese Selections
- edenVale Honey Goat Cheese
- edenVale Creamy Havarti
- edenVale Brie Cheese
Dessert Selections
- Grandessa Signature Mini Eclairs
- Belmont Premium Cheesecake Sampler
- Moser Roth Fine Truffles – Milk or Dark Chocolate
Well lets just say I have never been one to follow all of those “this wine goes with that” type of girl. In most cases I will always choose a white or rose wine. I do not completely dislike red. I just prefer the others.
My finale selections were:
- Landshut Riesling (Germany)
- Villa Malizia Pinot Grigio (Italy)
- edenVale Honey Goat Cheese
- edenVale Creamy Havarti
- Savoritz Entertainment Crackers – Six Cracker Assortment
- Belemont Premium Cheesecake Sampler
All of the above items were used during a family gathering. As we were talking about foods we enjoyed. I brought up places we like to shop. No one mentioned ALDI’s. I let everyone know that everything they were being served this evening was directly from ALDI’s. To say that some of them were amazed is putting it mildly. They could not believe I had purchased Award Winning Wines and so much more from our area ALDI’s.
I purchased a total of 22 items at ALDI’s that evening. All of the items on the receipt were under $5. with the excepting of the cheesecake which was only $9.99.
Now for part two of the newbie learning experience. I did not realize you had to bring your bags to sack your own groceries. Which in its self is not a big deal. We just placed the items directly into our car. They do have bags you can purchase near the checkout area. However in order to maximize your savings. I suggest you bring your own bags. After all, we are all trying to save money any way we can.
Think about stocking up for your holiday cooking and parties at ALDI’s. Be sure to check out the weekly sales ad online when making out your shopping list.
Happy Holiday and Merry Christmas From My Family to Yours!
